Why are there political, cultural and fun links on a page about AIDS?

Why are there political, cultural and fun links on a page about AIDS? There is a simple reason: there's more to life than AIDS. We must not think about it at every moment. Also - there are some very strange things going on in the world and we must pay attention. I think a common problem for everyone is that corporations are beginning to create policies that affect everyone. Big companies, in bed with big government, have been changing the way that laws are made. Profit seems to be more important than the lives of humans or animals, more important than the planet we live on. Labor laws and environmental protection laws are ignored as big companies rip up old-growth redwood stands and rainforests to get to resources. Multi-national corporations seem to view certain groups of people on this planet to be obstacles that must be eliminated. Some companies view children as cheap labor; the products that kids make can be bought for pennies, and sold for thousands of dollars. Children generally don't sue if they get hurt or poisoned on the job.

Health and environment

There may be reasons for people to be given an AIDS diagnosis besides a virus. People who are sick have the right to know if they can reverse their illness or not, and should be given the information they need to help themselves. Health has become a commodity. Too many people want a quick fix rather than taking responsibility for their own health. I believe that our environment has been damaged very badly, as a result more people are feeling sick. In order to feel the best possible it is necessary to be careful what we eat and drink. It's necessary to get enough sleep and relaxation. It's important to allow ourselves to express love and receive it from others. The fear of AIDS has robbed us of our trust for one another.

Greed - and the alternatives

The use of currency has caused humans to become greedy. Some people become "criminals," and are fed to the industry called "prison." Others are victims of the "war on drugs." What is one of the the fastest growing industries in the United States? - incarceration. The prison industry, (and that is exactly what it is) is the largest growing business in California as more people are put behind bars than ever.

Greed seems to be pretty dangerous... the greed we have for material things keeps many of us perpetually unhappy. How unproductive! Barter is a great alternative for using currency and people often exchange services.

Fun and activism

The fun links... If we begin to look at the blessings and wonders we already have, this planet is actually a pretty cool place to live. It's okay to celebrate and have a good time, but also it's everyone's duty to try to protect the world at the same time. Activism has begun to bring people together in a great way. By looking at what we can do for others, our own problems seem to diminish sometimes. By working together we build community and friendship. Some people find great joy in attempting to live as simply as possible.

Finally, it seems important that all the things that we do must be balanced. If you are an activist or someone who has a very serious job, it's important to do fun things occasionally so that you do not become discouraged. Conversely, if you feel that you have not been doing enough to help others, activism is a fantastic way to begin. There are many groups that could use volunteers or interns.
