What to Do with Discarded AIDS Drugs

Not everyone who quits the meds takes the creative approach of Xian. [Xian is an artist that has made incredible artwork from his discarded HIV meds.] Most people report flushing their AIDS treatments down the toilet. While throwing them in the toilet may seem appropriately symbolic, this practice poses a serious threat to the environment as the drugs are a form of toxic waste.
Although AIDS drug disposal is still a young science, there is some information on how best to get rid of these powerful chemicals. Some pharmacies will accept them back for proper disposal. The drugs can also be returned in toxic waste drives. Those concerned with anonymity should remove their name from labels and not return them to their own pharmacist.
Discretion is essential for people at risk of losing insurance coverage, disability benefits etc. for non-compliance.
